Adding annotations

When you annotate a design, the annotation appears as an icon (). You have the option of displaying the subject or text in the design along with the icon. You can place the icon on a design item (a page), on a link line, or in any area of the design view. Annotations added to items stay with the item when it is moved. Annotations added to lines stay with line when it is moved or deflected.

To add an annotation to a design:

1 Display the Inspector and the Object palette.

2 Drag a Design Annotation icon from the Site tab of the Object palette to the design.

3 Continue dragging to a page, a line, or some other location.

4 Type the subject and annotation text in the Annotation Inspector.

5 Do either of the following in the Annotation Inspector:

  • If you want the subject to appear in the design, select Display Subject.
  • If you want the text to appear in the design, select Display Text. (If you select both Display Subject and Display Text, the text will appear under the subject.)

  • 6 If you selected Display Subject or Display Text (and if necessary), change the position of the subject or text relative to the annotation icon.

With designs intended for presentation, displayed subjects are useful as captions for key features.
